Whether you're a beginner or continuing your studies, Rob brings 25 years of experience, insight & fun to every one of your piano lessons.
Rob's experience as a piano teacher has been instilled in him from early on, having taken piano lessons from a pedagogical lineage that can be traced all the way back to Beethoven.
Rob brings a unique perspective to the art of piano teaching to suit today's needs, juggling his music with a successful acting & directing career in Film, Television & Commercials giving him the ability to help students become stand out performers for the camera and stage, coupled with the skills needed to excel as a musician as well.
Currently all classes are conducted ONLINE ONLY due to COVID safety measures to ensure all students and their families are kept safe. Once we are in the clear, any local students can discuss making other arrangements to continue lessons in person if desired.
PRIVATE LESSONS
Scheduled Lessons times are in increments of 30, 45 or 60 minutes.
Lessons are generally given via ZOOM. This preferred platform allows for Whiteboarding, Sharing of materials, sharing of audio without transfers, sharing of screens, and even sharing of Music APPs plugged into the computer. Other platforms such as SKYPE & FACETIME are available if necessary.
For younger children 30 mins is generally recommended, although each student is different.
RATES:
Lesson rates are as follow:
$30 for 30 minutes
$40 for 45 minutes
$50 for 60 minutes.
Depending on location, in-home lessons are only given at the 60 minutes rate due to travel. (After COVID)
AGE RANGE
Generally 5-6 is the starting age for lessons. Depending on the students learning level & consultation with the parents. During online lessons, parent participation is highly encouraged. They become an extension of the teacher who can't be there In person to point out notes on the keyboard or to follow along by pointing at the notes in the music book.
Older kids (Middle School-High School) have the benefit of most likely knowing their way around the computer and internet and being able to focus on the course work during the lesson. We encourage these students to find their favorite songs they would like to learn on piano or sing.
Adults. You're never too old to learn, whether you're picking it up for the first time, or after many years. Your family is going to need someone to play the holiday songs on the piano, and that's you!
Teaching Style
What ever style of music or direction you want to go into we will help you get there. Rudiments and technique are essential; you need to know your alphabet before you can learn to speak sentences. But as we progress, the technical is incorporated into the lesson and the songs we are working on, so there's a more personal connection & not just something you will learn and forget quickly because it's not used often. Rock, Pop, Blues, Jazz, Broadway, Classical. Holiday songs. You name it and we will find a way to get you playing that style and song in no time.
Philosophy
We believe in the advancement of the artistry of music. All music comes from somewhere. Art, Music, Photography, Storytelling are all part of the same collective that creates an emotion within you. We encourage students to seek out what motivates them to create music. Perhaps it's a favorite musician or maybe as the musical Impressionists of the late 1800s, who were influenced by paintings & poetry. Our stories, anecdotes & suggestions of materials to explore on your own will help you be the best artist you can possibly be.

Rob is a really versatile teacher with the ability to tackle all different kinds of goals. He got a sense of what I'd been working on on my own, then tailored some ideas to where I wanted to work toward. He's an enthusiastic presence and clearly cares about his students.

5 Stars for Rob!! I'm a guitarist, and I have been performing with Rob consistently for five years. He is the leader of the group and a fantastic one. We take studio recordings that are often complex and have to to recreate them in a live setting for a small band. Rob is great at figuring out how to accomplish this and creates clear, easy to follow charts. He communicates well and knows how make the band sound its best. So in my experience, his teaching abilities are on point. He is funny, kind, talented and a joy to work with. I recommend him to you highly!! :)
